Iconic architecture meets great content

For 180 days, around 685,000 enthusiastic people could visit the Floriade Expo 2022. The main theme “Growing Green Cities” and the sub-themes “Green”, “Health”, “Energy” and “Food” aimed to broaden the awareness of sustainability in cities and to show possible solutions.

In the German Garden, one of the most visited places on the grounds, all these sub-themes of Floriade Expo 2022 could be played out. On an area of approximately 2000 m2, the public could take a journey through an interactive exhibition in the pavilion and thus learn about sustainable German projects and diverse initiatives. On the roof garden, colourful flowers and edible herbs, fruits and vegetables for at home, as well as two beehives and exotic plants could be admired, confronting us with the challenges posed by climate change. This theme was also placed in the atrium, which provided the perfect space for gathering and sharing thoughts: The three climate trees Metasequoia Glyptostroboides, Catalpa Bignonioides and Sophora Japonica were the symbol of a future we can no longer ignore. Here, too, one could spend time comfortably, sit on one of the benches or deckchairs and enjoy the varied cultural programme with workshops, talks, music and other artistic performances on the stage.

The EATTOPIA restaurant and the accompanying take-away EATTOPIA – GERMAN FOOD TO GO provided delicious food and drinks for a perfect day at Floriade Expo 2022.

BIE Gold Award Outdoor – BIOTOPIA – German Garden

For the holistic implementation of the event theme, the German Garden received the Gold Award in the category “Official Participants – Outdoor Gardens” from the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), which is responsible for world exhibitions.

A big thank you goes to all those involved! Together, we made BIOTOPIA become a place where everyone could learn how to actively create the green cities of the future.
