GERMAN PAVILION WORLD EXPO 2017 IN ASTANA KAZAKHSTAN
Consortium with gtp2 wins pitch for German Pavilion in at Expo 2017 in Astana and convinces with a uniform concept and a stringent storyline
The decision was taken: The bidding team of insglück (IG) / gtp2 / mac messe- und ausstellungscenter was awarded the contract for the design concept and realisation of the German Pavilion at Expo 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan. The contract also included the complete exhibition content, the exhibits as well as the technical operation of the pavilion. The winning concept was chosen from a pool of 7 finalists.
The German Pavilion will be managed by Hamburg Messe and Congress on behalf of the Ministry of Economics and Energy. The theme of Expo 2017 is Future Energy: Solutions for Tackling Humankind’s Greatest Challenge. The World Expo wants to meet all challenges arising from the theme with new ideas and concepts that show a sustainable access to energy with a corresponding reduction of CO2 emissions and an increase in energy efficiency.
In the jury commission‘s evaluation and selection of the team IG / gtp2 / mac it was noted that the concept represented an outstanding and uniform approach with a central focus and a stringent storyline highlighting challenges and the potential of the energy revolution (Energiewende) from a global, a local and an individual’s perspective“..The concept delivers a clear interpretation of the guiding theme throughout the pavilion behind an inviting and embracing facade design that attracts and draws visitors from afar.
Three award winning teams joined as equal partners to form the consortium for the design and realisation of the German Pavilion. The creative agency IG, under the directorship of Detlef Wintzen and Christoph Kirst, has been successful in live communication events since the millennium. They offer an extensive portfolio of immersive and interactive experiences next to their core services of creation, concepts and choreography. IG is presently heading the national rankings of creative event agencies.
gtp2, under the directorship of Anthony de Taranto, plans and designs exhibition presentations, world expos, exhibition pavilions and halls, temporary and multi-level structures all over the world since 1986, for private and public clients. The gtp2 team was involved in the design and realisation of the gold award winning German Pavilion at Expo 2012 in Yeosu in Korea as well as the Kazakhstan Pavilion at Expo 2015 in Milan, which won a bronze medal for its thematic interpretation.
mac messe- und ausstellungscenter Service is one of Germany‘s largest providers of exhibition building services. Next to typical exhibitions and consumer events, they also handle annual shareholder meetings, road shows, press conferences and standard events. mac has subsidiaries in Vienna, Prague, Shanghai, Bad Langensalza (Thuringia) and Frankfurt.
The decision to hold Expo 2017 in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, was made already in 2012 by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), which is responsible for the implementation and procurement of world expos. Expo 2017 opens on 10 June and closes on 10 September 2017. The Organising Committee in Astana is expecting 5 million visitors, which will experience an impressive vision of the future life of mankind. The 173 h large Expo site is well connected to the new government centre of Astana by public transport networks.
