german postal services
05. Mai 1990
Here is a very special and unusual project: in 1990 gtp2 were privileged to design a floating exhibition together with the creative agency TC Group, who acted as general contractor and were in charge of the thematic content.
Celebrating 500 years since the founding of the German postal services, the German Ministry of Postal Services – next to other festivities – commissioned a touring exhibition on a Rhine river boat, the “Wappen von Mainz”, which docked in 10 different cities along the Rhine between 09 June and 23 July 1990.
To this purpose the ship was partially gutted and re-fitted with entertaining and informative displays reviewing the past 500 years. The architectural concept created 5 thematic exhibition zones on the 3 levels of the boat including a textile pavilion as a film theatre on the upper sun deck and a complete cladding of the ship’s outer sides.
The “Wappen von Mainz” was one of the largest river boats in Germany, with a length of 90 m, a width of 15 m and a passenger capacity of 2,700.
